The Forbidden City

This morning, the rain and the fog are finally gone. It's a perfect day so we decided to go see the Forbidden City. Our pre-trip marketing has worked well and both Matthias and Oscar are pretty excited and even recognized the location for several scenes from The Last Emperor. It was also the first day of Chinese holidays, at least the first nice one, so the place was packed with Chinese tourists... not many gringos I have to say.

The Beijing Zoo & Aquarium

View Two Months in Asia on AlainJacq's travel map.

Our first day in Beijing started with rain and fog. So we decided to kill 2 birds with one stone and use that nasty weather for a trip top the Zoo. The kids are Ok with that idea. First taxi who comes in does not want to take us there. Later on we figured that because of the rain, the traffic is crazy, it took us almost an hour to get there. The zoo is in pathetic condition, but the Panda exhibit is nice and you get to see them really close compared to US zoos (which may not be so good for them). The Aquarium is much nicer although nothing out of this world. At 3pm everybody is falling asleep from jet lag.

We've arrived in Beijing!

The airport was amazing! Huge, modern, shiny. If you compared to JFK or LGA, we are the third world country.
Our hotel is great, 2 bedrooms, kitchen, walking distance from Wangfujing (Beijing's large pedestrian street). Internet is hooked up really fast, iPad is connected, Skype is tested, Facebook/Twitter/Youtube/Wikipedia are no-go as expected. NYTimes as well. Oh well.
View from our living room. Yeah, it's pretty busy out there.
